Description
Source description

This permit application is for retroactive approval of the replacement of two existing second-floor front-facing windows at 1905 9 1/2 Street NW in Washington, DC.The prior windows were non-original, single-pane units installed in 2018. They were not historic and did not provide adequate sound or thermal insulation. The newly installed windows are triple-pane, energy-efficient units that significantly improve indoor comfort, reduce HVAC energy demand, and support modern environmental performance standards. The replacement windows were custom fabricated to match the exact size, configuration, muntin pattern, frame profile, trim alignment, and exterior color of the previous units. No changes were made to the existing openings, building structure, or visual appearance of the facade. There was no enlargement, relocation, or alteration of exterior architectural elements. Our home is located in a vibrant and historically significant area off the U Street corridor. We greatly value the historic character of the neighborhood and would never take actions that compromise its architectural integrity. Our priority was simply to improve energy efficiency and sound attenuation for a safe and healthy living environment as we prepare a nursery for our growing family while continuing to enjoy our beloved community. This upgrade enhances the building's environmental sustainability, acoustic insulation, and long-term durability while maintaining full compatibility with the existing historic streetscape. The work is strictly a like-for-like replacement that does not impact the historical design or appearance of the property. We respectfully request retroactive approval of this completed window replacement to ensure full compliance with District of Columbia building and historic preservation requirements while preserving the historic aesthetic and architectural continuity of the property and surrounding area.
