Environmental Standards proposes to install four (4) soil borings on the property located at 1875 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC to further investigate subsurface soils in the vicinity of a historic #2 heating oil release, associated with former LUST case #94-020. Additional boring will be installed on the adjacent property located at 18725 Connecticut Ave NW and will be included under a separate permit request. Soil borings will be advanced until saturated soils are encountered and, as feasible, will be advanced 5 feet beyond the depth of impacts observed. It is anticipated that saturated soils will be encountered at approximately 20 feet below ground surface (ft bgs) and total boring depth will extend to approximately 25 ft bgs unless refusal is encountered at a shallower depth. The soil borings will be advanced by a DC-licensed driller using Geoprobe Systems? direct-push drilling equipment. Prior to initiating drilling activities, Miss Utility will be notified, and a private utility clearance will be completed. The soil cores will be field screened and logged by an Environmental Standards Geoscientist according to lithology, and samples will be collected and submitted for laboratory analysis. Soil cuttings will be containerized in an appropriately labeled 55-gallon drum for proper off-site disposal. Upon the conclusion of soil sampling activities, soil borings will be properly abandoned with a bentonite/cement grout and each borehole will be patched to grade, restoring to original condition.
