SPR 2019 CBRC:THIS PROJECT IS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE REINFORCED CONCRETE ROOF FOR THE VAULTED SPACE THAT SERVES COMED'S 34KV TRANSFORMERS. THE VAULT ROOF IS CURRENTLY SUPPORTED IN PART BY STRUCTURAL FRAMING OF THE ADJACENT 37 STORY PALMOLIVE BUILDING, WHICH IS PRIMARILY RESIDENTIAL, WITH STORE FRONTS ON THE GROUND LEVEL. THE VAULT FOOTPRINT IS APPROXIMATELY 33'-9" X 15'-5". THIS COMED TRANSFORMER VAULT IS LOCATED UNDER THE SIDEWALK AND WILL REQUIRE 4'-6" OF EXCAVATION DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ROOF LEVEL. PROPOSED WORK WILL INCLUDE INSTALLATION OF A STEEL BEAM WALER TO TRANSFER LATERAL EARTH LOAD ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VAULT, OPEN CUT EXCAVATION ALONG THE VAULT EXTENTS, DEMOLITION OF EXISTING CONCRETE ROOF STRUCTURE AND RESTORATION OF CONCRETE ROOF PER COMED AND CITY OF CHICAGO STANDARDS.
