Our front steps (three risers) and (non-heated) enclosure has rotted out and need to be replaced. We plan to replace it with something smaller and more open. Though this does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Historic Commission, we consulted with them and they approved our general plans and signed off.Later this spring the contractor (possibly S&H who currently does the work on our garage on another permit) will submit a building permit for the replacement. However, to simplify the design process and for safety reasons (cannot stop my kids from climbing onto rotten parts) I would like to remove the rotten parts including the steps and close it off. I will do the demolition myself. The structure was added in 1980 and tested lead-free by a licensed inspector. The amount of debris is very minimal and will be added to the clean-up on our existing permit for a garage renovation.
