Source description

Masonry repointing and localized brick repair at the east, west, and rear elevations of the property. The work is intended to stabilize and preserve the historic masonry envelope through the removal of deteriorated mortar and replacement with historically appropriate lime-based mortar compatible with the existing historic brick masonry. Carefully remove deteriorated mortar joints by hand using a cold chisel and hammer to an approximate depth of 3/4 inch. Repoint approximately 50 square feet of deteriorated masonry joints at the east, west, and rear elevations of the structure. Install new Lancaster LimeWorks Natural Wheat lime putty mortar to match the historic mortar in color, texture, material composition, permeability, and joint profile. Preserve all existing historic masonry materials and architectural features. No changes are proposed to building openings, dimensions, wall configurations, or exterior architectural features. Mortar Specifications The proposed mortar shall match the existing historic mortar in the following characteristics: Color, Texture, Material composition, Joint profile Care shall be taken to avoid damage to adjacent historic brick masonry during mortar removal and repointing. Any replacement brick units required shall match the existing historic brick in size, color, texture, and finish. As per code.
